9.20 pm today (UK time) will mark the beginning of Rajab, the 7th. month of the Islamic lunar calender. Much have been said about the merits and the greatness of Rajab. But in the spirit of Rajab - 'Rajabun Shahrullah' (Rajab is the month of Allah), let this be the start of day for us to ponder - where are we going from here...??..
33 years in the UK, does not exclude me from stories and news of my kampong and my country. Far from it. The kampong-boy blood still flows in my veins. I try in any way I can to emulate, fulfill and live this life in the good name of my parents, expectations of my teachers and hopes of my kampong folks.
Current events in my beloved country lately have provoked me to post this blog. Bickering, backstabbing, mouth-slinging, conspiracy and corruption have taken the center stage of our lives. We surely do not live up to the beautiful name of Islam. The month of Rajab is one of the four sacrosanct months (Al-Ashhur-al-hurum) - where battles were prohibited in these months; but yet our leaders are in-fighting battling each other as to who is the better. No one knows for how long this will carry on and for what. Power? Wealth? Popularity??.. As Muslims we speak and take oath with the same Shahada (the testimony of Islamic faith). We pray, we seek forgiveness from the ONE God! We refer the same book - the Qur'an! We follow by the examples & guidance of the same Prophet!!!.. but alas !!.. regretfully we do not aspire ourselves as true Muslims...!!
'Being wealthy does not mean we can wear 10 clothes, or eat 10 times at any one time, and even if God prolongs our lives longer than that of Prophet Noah's, we will eventually die and face Allah's judgment.' - my late father once said. We have forgotten our roots as well as our courteous ways? We claim we are the most well-mannered and cultured race; but, the moment we step outdoors we forget to offer salutations to another fellow Muslims. 'Smile' seems to be more expensive than a speck of diamonds.!!. 'Smile' is a 'Sadaqa'.
In today's Friday sermon, the 'Khatib' - the one who gives the Khutba' quoted: "...inna solati, wanusuki, wamayahya, wamamati, lillahi robbil'alameen." (verse 162 of Surah Al-An'am) which means '...truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allah-The Cherisher of the Worlds.' This is the very same oath we proclaim everytime we begin our prayer... Yet, we forget...!
Representing the rakyat is a heavy burden. It is not easy as you hold the rakyats trusts. It is no laughing matter - but instead we are being laughed at..!! Of late too, my beloved country must have been the only country in the world to have so many Royal Commissions..!!.. I do not know what they are for. Let us not forget that a similar final Royal Commission from ALLAH will testify us of all our misdeeds, our dishonesty and our arrogance.
Everlasting life begins once you breathe your last breath. Praying 5 times a day is not the passport for that safe passage. Many questions will need to be answered. Our very own self will not be our saviour. As for our soul - if any, I wonder..!!.
In the spirit of this sacred Rajab, I urge all those representing the rakyat to stop the bickerings, the onslaught back-biting, the lies etc...etc... Enough is enough. May I urge that the Sultans and the DYMM Agong should withdraw all their titles as they do not have the honour to wear their YBs, YABs etc... They have disgrace the good name of our the 'kedaulatan negara beraja.' Ponder for the very reasons why you were elected. In the words of a long dead statesman:
"The basis of one great nation is its leaders and its people with integrity and wisdom, and not a skin deep of hypocrisy. Let our sons and our grandchildren be born and raised with integrity as well as sincerity - then, their future will not be a laughing stock of its own society. Let us hold for what we believe in to its highest esteem, with full dignity and not die without integrity" - Anon.
Let us move on........
