Yesterday was the third anniversary 7/7 atrocity which killed 52 innocent London commuters and mutilated many more. It was Britain's 9/11 - the first attack by British-born muslims in the name of Allah. Regretfully, last night I was unable to watch the program 'Dispatches' on TV as I have some errands to attend to. Therefore I cannot comment further on this.
In this present world, where individual rights takes priority over communities pride, sentiments and traditions, the true definition of a 'word' in the English vocabulary has been distorted mercilessly in order to comply with individual human right issues as well as to bowing-down to international & universal pressures'. A love-child born from couples out of wedlock is not a 'bastard'. A muslim man with more than one wife is a bigamist whilst it is okay if you have a mistress or mistresses. Last weekend's formula 1 racing-winner, Lewis Hamilton is now the 1st.Englishman to have won the British grand-prix since the 80's whilst a losing Scotsman in an international tournament is only known a British. A muslim who adheres to the fundamentals of the Islamic religion is a fundamentalist and a terrorist..!. In yesterday's local paper, the Swiss population is to reject the proposed building of a mosque in their city when Switzerland herself is championing the voice of international justice...!! Clearly, mere words, were defined and interpreted out of context only to suit certain individuals and organisations. Just what is the world coming into...?
Islam, with a world population of 2 billion and more is the fastest growing religion, second only to Christianity. Surely from such a big number, they are no terrorists. Islam is a religion of monotheism, similar to the religions and faiths of prophets Noah, Moses, Abraham, Jesus and lastly Muhammad (peace be upon them all) - but yet only Islam is a religion of terrorists...!!..
The actions from so-called firebrand muslim clerics, from Abu Hamza to Zuhairi, from Amrozi (the smiling Bali-bomber) to Osama and many others, the West interpretations of ideologies of Communism, Zionism, Nazi etc. are harmless. Atrocities and killings of thousands of innocent Muslims in Bosnia, China, Iraq, Palestinians and other countries are okay, victims of misadventure - surely the differences between these two terminologies are as clear as black from white or day from night. Surely the West is aware why these people take matters into their own hands in the name of the religion of Islam. Islam then is always put to blame.
To think of it, may be Islamophobia is their fear that their women will be tortured by Muslim husbands, or perhaps their young daughters will be buried alive or perhaps they will be treated as women-slaves...!!!
Geographically, God has created Islamic countries throughout the world, rich in natural resources, oil, ores, flora and fauna, manpower etc, but yet we remain poor and illiterate..!! Is God testing us by giving everything in abundance but we remain helpless. We are obsessed with what we have but we remain blind from reality. In the words of a friend who performed the Hajj, a couple of years ago said: 'From the time of Prophet Muhammad's last Hajj until today, the Saudi Government could have provided hundreds if not thousands of immigration lanes for incoming millions of pilgrims, instead of expecting them to queue for hours after hours just for an entry clearance!.. Surely with millions of revenues, sacrifices received, poverty and illiteracies in Muslim countries can be averted.' I was dumbfounded in total agreement.
Rightfully or wrongfully, in the words of our former Malaysian PM - Tun Mahathir, in an international forum with Muslim leaders, intellects and clerics worldwide as well as international heads of states and pressmen in Oxford, Cambridge and London, said that 'Islam - the misunderstood religion'. It caused an uproar..!!. A muslim is claiming that he is a better muslim than the other muslims. We argued and fought on issues of the way, the place we pray, how we dress, what we eat etc..etc. - whereas the real issues of Islam's victimisations were put aside.
Surely, muslims in Malaysia still remembers the day when dead muslims who supported the opposition or vice-versa were refused burial in the alotted cemetery...! And now it looks like that history is to repeat itself. The ruling coalition of various parties that constitute the Malaysian government, especially from its UMNO members (may be 99.0 % are muslims) is at loggerheads. The current interpretation of another brand of Islam in the country has been rejected by muslims in 5 states which were lost to the opposition. The so-called muslim leaders in my own country have not ceased from in-fighting and bickering, accusing one's weakness but not of their own. Each and everyone wants to prove to the people he/they are better muslims than the other thus making them better leaders and should be elected. This makes them a laughing stock from the other party components, the oppositions if not the world...
I dare say that various ideologies are long gone. Social freedom, social contract, democracy whether draconian or otherwise is dead. It is up to us as Muslims that Islam in its true perspective and practice must be free from its misconceptions. Oppressions and sentiments on revenge must be discussed in the most amicable way. The concept of 'Asobiyah' in Islam - championing overall democracy but based on one's rights base on one's race, will eventually proves for its downfall.The downfall of Ottomans Muslims (the greatest and powerful civilisation of modern period that ruled Europe for well over 600 years) is not due to terrorism, anarchy but due to its meteoric population increase and fundamentally its refusal to modernise. How aptly true it is, that Islam's very first lesson is about seeking knowledge (Chapter 96 - Al'Alaq). Or perhaps, we Muslims must fight through religious liberty - as in the winning case of Ms.Lillian Ladele (a Christian Registrar) who refused to carry out gay weddings because of her Orthodox Christian beliefs. This September hearing will determine the amount as to how much she will receive for this victory. Islam and its practices must be put at its highest pedestal.
To these would-be leaders, I urge them to return to the true meaning and the tenets of Islam. The devil is and always try to distract one's true faith. The devil in whatever form and disguise will never tire to islamophobia our ISLAM...
